Course Description

This qualification reflects professional accounting job roles in financial services and other industries, including tax agents, accounts payable and accounts receivable officers, payroll service providers, and employees performing a range of accounting tasks for organisations in a range of industries. Individuals in these roles apply solutions to a range of often complex problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They apply initiative to plan, coordinate and evaluate their own work and provide guidance to others within defined guidelines.

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.

Course Duration:

 This qualification is delivered in a Blended Learning approach over 20 hours per week for a period of 104 weeks, with 12 terms of study (6 weeks per term) and up to 32 weeks of holiday.

Academic Entry Requirements

NCCS course entry requirements are following

  • Must be over the age of 18 years

Must have completed the following units:

  • FNSACC321 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports
  • FNSACC322 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers
  • FNSACC418 Work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry
  • FNSACC421 Prepare financial reports (this unit is the equivalent version of BSBFIA401 Prepare financial reports).

These units may have been completed either through completion of FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting (or equivalent) or the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set.

English Language Entry Requirements
  • All students must have a minimum English language proficiency of Upper-Intermediate, or
  • Successfully passed NCCS’s English Placement Test at the College, or
  • IELTS score 5.5 or equivalent, or
  • Australian qualification equivalent to a minimum of Certificate IV level

Assessment Methods

Assessment is structured throughout the course. If students are unable to achieve competency, additional support is provided through mentoring and access to re-assessment as outlined in our policies and procedures. Assessment requires achievement across all tasks to demonstrate competence and may include

  • Written questioning and Exercises
  • Oral questioning
  • Project
  • Case Study analysis
  • Written Reports
  • Demonstration
  • Presentation
  • Role Play
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Course Credit
  • Students with prior learning and work experience can apply for RPL.
  • Students who have completed corresponding units of competency and/or units contained within the packaging rules can apply for Credit Transfer.

Future Pathway

Students who complete this qualification can continue their studies by advancing to the FNS60222 Advanced Diploma of Accounting or any other relevant Advanced Diploma level qualification.

Those who wish to use the skills gained in the qualification in workplace, can find themselves moving into roles such as

  • Accountant
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Bookkeeper
  • Tax agent.
